(or show them all): IASI Research Report n. 519 (Previous Next) Cioni G., Colagrossi A., Temperini M.A technique for course configuration in open and distance learningABSTRACT We outline a framework for the development of different version (configurations) of the same course, so to fit the different needs shown by different students. In our framework, a didactic pool contains many learning components. A component is a small container for a small part of course, build as the specification of the knowledge that it requires, the knowledge that it will eventually provide and the related learning resources. All those components could make up a complete and comprehensive course, yet it is quite likely that a given student, depending on its starting knowledge about the matter of the course, will need only a subset of all those components, in order to reach the course's aims (the target knowledge). In order to support the activity of tailoring a course on the effective student's needs, we try to devise sufficiently precise ways for modeling the student's and component related knowledge and effective protocols for the use of such representations in the configuration activities. The representational devices we use for specifying those knowledge items are mainly based on mathematical logic. The core of the work uses basically propositional logic, yet we also demonstrate a use of predicative logic. |
