One machine scheduling problem with ready times and sequence dependent processing times: preliminary results

ABSTRACT

We consider the problem of scheduling jobs with ready times and sequence dependent processing times on a single machine to minimize the mean weighted flow time. The problem is reduced to a special case of the Weighted Cumulative Traveling Salesman problem with additional time constraints. We propose a mathematical formulation and, for the case of equal weights, we give two heuristic algorithms and two lower bounds. Performance analysis for heuristics and bounds on randomly generated test problems are discussed.
