A conceptual model for transport problems

ABSTRACT

In this paper a coneptual model for the description of transport problems is proposed and a formal data model is described. The proposed conceptual model is based on a graph. This graph consists of circle and square nodes and of oriented edges in order to represent urban reality (squares, streets, crosses, houses and monuments, as well as all the types of traffic and the characteristics of such entities, both from the static point of view, and from the dynamic point of view). All the definitions of the entities and sub-entities used in the model are given. The database scheme is discussed, carrying out the mapping between the conceptual model and the logical, object-oriented model. The visual interface of the data definition model, as well as simple examples of its use, are shown. Finally, a brief conclusion is given.
