Semantic search for collaborative competency management in networked enterprises

ABSTRACT

Enterprise interoperability, to be sustainable, needs to be based on a common understanding of the business domain. This is even more crucial in the context of networked enterprises, where a number of SMEs decides to tightly cooperate. Such enterprises, to profitably share services, competencies (i.e., specific business knowledge), etc., need to agree on a shared reference ontology (RO). The RO is used to build the company profiles with the offered services. Given a business opportunity (a user request) represented by a set of RO concepts, the SMEs are collectively searched to identify the services that will seize at best the opportunity. In this paper, we illustrate SemSim, a search method based on the semantic similarity notion derived from the well-known information content approach. An experimental assessment is presented showing that our proposal performs better than some of the most representative similarity search methods proposed in the literature.
