Information and Communication Technologies are among the most striking factors which affect today's changes of human life. The availability of computing machines and tools capable of storing information and transferring it instantaneously all over the world, dramatically modifies our perception of space, time, and relationships.
The rational understanding of the possibilities and the limits of the Information and Communication Technologies is an important first step for identifying the new shapes of human existence in a scenario which offers the richness of many new opportunities, but also raises many problematic issues.

The objective of this meeting is to focus our attention upon some relevant aspects of the Information and Communication technological developments and upon the new anthropological and social perspectives which those achievements foreshadow.

Le tecnologie dell'informazione e delle comunicazioni sono tra i fattori più determinanti degli odierni mutamenti della vita dell'uomo. L'avvento di efficienti dispositivi in grado di svolgere procedimenti logici, di memorizzare informazioni, e di trasferirle ovunque alla velocità della luce, si traduce in una modificazione drammatica della percezione delle distanze, del tempo e delle relazioni.
La comprensione razionale delle potenzialità e dei limiti di questi mezzi tecnici è una premessa importante per delineare i nuovi orizzonti dell'esistenza umana in scenari ricchi di opportunità, ma anche di problematiche complesse. Lo scopo di questo convegno è quello di porre l'attenzione su alcuni aspetti rilevanti che caratterizzano l'evoluzione tecnologica nell'ambito dell'informazione, della sua elaborazione e trasmissione, e sulle prospettive antropologiche e sociali che questa evoluzione prefigura.
