Design and operation of strategic inventory control system for drug delivery in healthcare industry

abstract = “Several factors such as the raise in healthcare expenditures impose growing pressures to improve efficiency in healthcare industry Industrial engineering and operations research can be effectively used at this aim. This paper examines the optimization of a hospital’s inventory costs where the central pharmacy of the hospital assumes a role of central decision maker for drugs’ purchasing and their distribution to internal wards. Inventory control strategies integrating combinatorial based mechanisms and classical inventory control has been developed in order to optimize inventory costs of drugs logistics.

Optimisation of freight flows and sourcing in sustainable production and transportation networks

abstract = “Global supply chains require integrated cost optimisation of sourcing, production and distribution through flexible networks of suppliers, manufacturers and logistics operators. The minimisation of environmental impacts of freight flows must be considered for sustainable development and should turn into a competitive advantage. To these aims, the paper presents a model integrating supply, production networks and sustainable freight transportation for strategic and tactical decision-making. Bill-of-Materials constraints are included in the model.

Optimization and Simulation of Collaborative Networks for Sustainable Production and Transportation

abstract = “Complex and delocalized manufacturing industries require high levels of integration between production and transportation in order to effectively implement lean and agile operations. There are, however, limitations in research and applications simultaneously embodying further sustainability dimensions. This paper presents a methodological framework based on optimization and simulation to integrate aggregate optimized plans for production and multimodal transportation with detailed dynamic distribution plans affected by demand uncertainty. The objective function of the optimization model considers supply, production, transportation, and CO2 emission costs, as well as collaboration over the multimodal network.
