This project aims at investigating the double-faced role of HDAC4 in AD pathogenesis studying the loss of the positive HDAC4-dependent regulation of synaptic proteins in the cytoplasm along with the negative impact of HDAC4 nuclear localization on epigenetic regulation and gene expression. By molecular, electrophysiological, and behavioral approaches we will test the beneficial effects of an HDAC4 mutant, specifically localized at the synapses, on recovery of plasticity and memory deficits in AD.
