Regenerative medicine: from multi-omics to therapeutic interventions (and back)

The increasingly expanding array of high throughput technologies has allowed us to better understand how gene expression is regulated in stem cells and specialized somatic cell types, and to identify the mechanisms by which different tissues respond to damage. Here I will describe our recent work in two tissues with very different regenerative potential, the central nervous system and skeletal muscle. I will discuss how the integration of high throughput data can be exploited not only for the dissection of the molecular pathways involved in the tissue-specific response to damage, but also for the design of more selective therapeutic strategies. Moreover, integration of pre-clinical and clinical data into our model(s) will allow us to fine tune the therapeutic intervention, and to move towards personalized treatments for neuromuscular diseases
