SUMOylation is a crucial post-translational modification that regulates protein function at multiple levels. In this review the authors discuss the SUMOylation impact in the regulation of the synapse compartment and the therapeutic potential of modulating SUMOylation in Alzheimer’s disease as example of neurodegenerative disorders.
