PRIN-SPORT - Smart PORT Operations

PRIN-SPORT - Smart PORT Operations

summary SPORT is a three year research project (2017 – 2019). The objective of SPORT is to devise innovative and smart methodologies to design, implement, test and assess on the field an integrated and modular set of software elements able to provide a concrete support to the port logistics operators for the management of the intermodal activities. SPORT will integrate operations research, optimization, and simulation skills of 7 universities and academic bodies. Industrial end users are involved in the project validation.

Activity time range: 2017-2019

The objective of SPORT is to devise innovative and smart methodologies to design, implement, test and assess on the field an integrated and modular set of software elements able to provide a concrete support to the port logistics operators for the management of the intermodal activities. SPORT Integrated Management Platform (IMP) Architecture.

The approach of SPORT is to devote the treatment of each different subsystem to a Specific Application Module (SAM), and to define appropriate dialogue interfaces among them within an Integrated Management Platform (IMP) capable to ensure that the results of one model are constraints for another one and vice-versa. Such approach avoids a hierarchical vision of the interaction between models and allows trial-and-error overall planning.

IMP is based on a two-level architecture: • a common base level with a series of Basic Operational Modules (BOMs), providing general base services • an application level, with a series of SAMs, each dealing with a specific problem relevant for the port intermodal activity management in an integrated way.

The problems addressed by the SAM are:

– SAM 1. Sea-side decision problems: the Live Connection

– SAM 2. Gate operations and inland forwarding

– SAM 3. Management of human resources in Transhipment Container Terminals (TCTs)

– SAM 4. Container Operations Management

– SAM 5. Routing and Tracing

– SAM 6. Drayage
